I think it's more a spontaneous deliverance of glory for the photo/news/tv people so that it makes the evening news. It's a way of doing things simuliar to grabbing the 3 top flat race winners and putting them in a winners circle and getting on with the next race -- only there are still lots of others out there. It's also interesting that the FEI stewards really can't control the crowd during a 15min +/- window of time around the finishers. It all just collapses into a mass of people taking pictures and such. Pretty chaotic, but it DOES make for good pictures and evening news - so whose to say... As to the paper plates - not a bad idea! a bunch of hand made completion awards that we could hand out after sundown to the finishers. I've not heard from Heather and Meg. They should be 2/3 of the way through the 5th loop. It's dark (and I bet cold!!) they have two support rigs with them (I wonder what it's like with headlights out there -- mighty bad for the night vision? I thought there was a moon - didn't see one though - comes from staying in a city ... Steph mentioned that she thought today was more difficult that last year (when she crewed for Leonard here). And still they knocked 18 minutes of the time and almost broke 7 hours.
