[RC] soak the flax seed - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

My mare had a nasty, scurfy skin disorder last winter. I tried all kinds of
wonders on it, with no effect, until I switched from feeding vegetable oil to
feeding ground flax. The skin problem cleared up completely in one week and
hasn't returned. I've fed ground flax ever since and remembered seeing
something in a Pony Club manual, circa 1940, about making flax seed jelly by
soaking the seed overnight in hot water. I decided to see what would happen if
I just soaked whole flax in cold water for 12 hours, and the gel effect works
quite nicely. I think that it would be possible to simply add a cup or so of
whole flax to the day's beet pulp and soak it all together. That's the route I
would try if I was feeding whole flax.
