Dabney's Response:

Thank you so much Heidi.  That "visual" helped me understand this question so much better.

Probably like most American endurance riders who've been successful with different bloodlines, even "grade," Arabs, I've always thought genetics not as important as conformation, mind, heart, and training.  But I think at the elite 7 hour 100s, where the horses have already been preselected for those good qualities, genetics might be a much higher percentage of the success rate than even 1/2.

SO, are we seeing any "trends" out there as far as these elite horses' breeding?  (A friend who's an Arabian racetrack trainer tells me owners only want French bred Arabs these days on the track....)

And, just to "stir the pot" a little more, are the French Arabs so successful on the flat track because they're "pure" rather than "show" bloodlines--or because some TB has been snuck in there way back when no one was looking?  And, yes, Kat--I already am guessing your response to that!
