Re: [RC] Frigid Digit 2005 - Kristen A Fisher

There were 40-some starters in the 50 with 39 finishers I think. Dakota Broadway won the 50, and Autumn Whitt came in 2nd and got BC.

The 50s got off easier than the 25s and 75s as by far the worst footing was on the white trail. The 50s did silver, blue & red, and the worst footing on our ride was the part of the red that overlapped the white.

There were 30 riders that started the 75, not sure now many completed or who came in first/BC [Darolyn I think...?] but Mike Maul & Cressy Drummond finished just before midnight after riding for hours in the dark & rain. A huge congrats to all, especially Maria Wallis as a first time ride manager. There were 130+ horses there & only one horse treatment [a horse that needed stitches] and one rider treatment that I heard of [the LDer who hurt her knee?] There were 4 vets and RC seemed less crowded than usual for the big rides they have there - we zipped through cool down, P&R & VCs with virtually no waiting. There are a few areas of rocks at the Grasslands, but it is negligible IMO. A good place to try your first 50!

[Finally an ENDURANCE rider]
have liked too), much more than I expected! We completed the 25 miler with a ride time of 4:19 which put us around 48th (I think). There were 70 starters, 53 finishers, so that makes me a Turtle Ten Smiley emoticon ! I didn't know how many were in the 50 or 75 though. The only hazards on the trails were a few boggy, deep wet sand, and slick places from all the rain we had during the previous week (oh, and some riders encountered annoyed bird dog trainers whose hounds were off running with the horses and not listening to their handlers!)  The weather was on the cool side with a good breeze but lots of sunshine!
