RE: [RC] Guns/protection - Bob Morris

Juli:

Interesting that you bring up the subject of a knife for protection. I
have a close friend that spent much time on the street as a cop in the
tougher parts of Oakland, CA and Portland, OR. His concept, based on
experience, a "low life" is not afraid of a gun in the hands of a female
but sure as hell has second thoughts when they see a female with a knife
in hand.

Best defense is to hold the knife low and meet any aggression with an
upward sweep from groin to chin. Makes them think twice.

Just my thoughts. I will not carry a gun for personal reasons although I

have no problem with those that do so responsibly...I prefer a knife. No
one
is going to pull me off my horse if I slash their face and boot my horse

outta there. I also know how to use it on the ground and will happily
gut
someone that tries to kill me or otherwise seriously harm me. I do not
like
violence and my knife comes in handy for eating cheese, cutting branches
and
any number of other things besides protection which makes me feel that
it is
useful beyond just being a tool of violence...but I know how to use it
for
that if I ever need to...Kenpo is a martial art designed around using
the
body and extensions of the body...staff, stick, and then knife as
protection...it is cool and there are other ways to learn knife fighting

too. Just another thought that does not involve packing a gun which I
personally do not like and am not comfortable with. But good for you to
all
who feel comfortable and responsible enough to carry a weapon such as a
gun.
Cheers,
Juli
