Re: [RC] tailgating...your responsibility - Jody Rogers-Buttram

That is true...but, I have seen cases (and it involved me and my horses) where when you move over and offer the trail to the tailgater, that they say, "oh, but I prefer to ride  behind you, my horse doesn't need to go faster".    I tell people ALL the time, that I don't want them to run up my horse's butt, that I shoe them with a lot of heel space on the rear and they could rip their shoes off.  I have gotten more response from that, then trying to get them around me.  Besides, if they do pass you, 9 times out of 10....you end up catching them on the next hill.   Maybe I am a Grinch....but I like to ride ALONE.

Every time this subject comes up, I give this same answer....this is the last time.  NO ONE can ruin my ride by tailgating or otherwise disturbing my horse.  I simply step aside and stop until the offender is out of sight.  I feel it is MY responsiblility to control when and where my horse is, despite those around me.
