This can cause any number of different problems and a marked change in behaviour/attitude can be one of the things. Your vet can easily do a blood test for it (costs about $75 in my area) and the treatment is oral doxycycline for 3-6 weeks (depending on the severity of the case). If this is the case, your horse will be back in action before you know it.
