[RC] "Barefoot" Riding Question (not Endurance) - Lacy Jae

I think I've read most of the posts on this topic but if I missed one
that answers this question, please forgive me. :)

The horses that I was given came unshod. They haven't been ridden or
anything in 2 years, in which time they've been out in a pasture that
I've never seen. I am not sure if they were shod before that or not,
when they were being ridden. I assume that my youngest, Mocha, who has
never been ridden, has never been shod at 4.5 years old. I am not sure
about the other two.

As far as I know, the riding I will be doing when I start riding these
girls will be mainly in grassy hills/fields, as we accustom them to
being ridden again as well as to us.

So I'm wondering: Being pasture horses for at least two years, and
being unshod for at least two years, do they need conditioning to be
ridden barefoot in unrocky conditions?
