Re: [RC] [RC] US Team news - Kristen A Fisher

My initial point to Laurie's claim about "limping horses not playing well in Kansas" is that no one in Kansas saw this [barring maybe a few AERC folks there]. It was broadcast on Dubai TV and a semi-private webcast - AND it was in the middle of a friggin' Wednesday night here. It was NOT on 5 different NBC affiliate stations for 3 weeks, like the Olympics. It was *certainly* not like watching Landseer turn the corner on the turf in the 2000 Breeders Cup on a Sat afternoon with a shattered cannon bone still trying to run.

And in the highly unlikely event that an average US family had seen this, they would have seen people galloping through the desert, looking quite like they are having fun. Any negative connotations are inferences.

But there is a difference--- hardened gamblers could care less--- But you put it on International television with 'average family' watching like the Olympics and all the 'Bambi-ites", "tree-huggers" and your average compasionate person without any horse knowledge, who just like to watch the pretty horses, much less the PETA types, and it "won't play well in Kansas".

But then many areas of the world---the view of animals as companions does not exist----Heck ,remember they EAT them in Europe---- The average American won't dream of eating a "horsey"- they like to see them shiny, fat and with little girls bobbing on them......

Can you imagine the Kentucky Derby with 2/3 of the Horses limping off
the field ?
Won't play well in Kansas.......

Don't bet on it--horse racing regularly hauls three-legged ones off the
field, and sometimes even has to destroy them on-site and haul them off
that way. Doesn't seem to deter the betting public in the slightest. And
if they don't come back to run another day because they broke down, that
doesn't seem to deter the betting public either.
