I use an S hack and with my old one we covered it with a fuzzy cover which seemed to work. There is a pic of it on my mare here.  I actually ended up getting a new one from windrider tack and I haven't felt the need to cover it at all.

It is not too tough to cover them with different materials. I have seen
fuzzy covers, and I just wrapped mine with vet wrap. But, the vet wrap gets
funky after awhile, and has to be redone. You can also buy some of that
handle wrap for tennis rackets, or the old wrap for bike handle bars, and
wrap it over the nose band. Hought tack has a nice replacement noseband for
them out of biothane.
