RE: [RC] cold - Gloves? - heidi

Ok, on this theme of cold, for those of you that live in the frozen North:
what kind of gloves to you use? Its in the low 30s down here in SE Texas
and I have some polar fleece, leather gloves and before Im even half through
feeding the horses, I cant feel my fingers. They get painfully cold. I
have to soak my hands in warm water for about 10 minutes when I come back in.

I have poor circulation in my hands, and have always had a tough time
finding gloves that actually keep me warm. I've finally found some
called Heatrac gloves, and they work wonders in this subzero weather.
I haven't a clue what they're made of. They are not waterproof, but in
subzero weather, that isn't usually an issue. The only time I get them
wet is when I'm draining the hose after watering the stallions. They
do dry fairly easily, so my solution is to just put on a dry pair after
I've done that. In this cold snap, I've been working fairly regularly
outside in 0 to -10 temps, and they've worked fine. I do have a pair
of really heavy mittens that are oversized and fleece lined that I have
used in subzero weather in the past, and they work great--but I do find
it difficult to buck bales in oversized mittens.
