RE: [RC] Let's talk endurance goals for '06 - Chrystal

Shannon, that is AWESOME!!! VERY  grand plans  :-) :-) - my mare and I did our first 50 last summer ( 05) after 3 years of mileage and CTR's - I was SO nervous!! Terrified of killing my horse or falling off her after 40 miles because I was so tired or something, :-) I made myself do it, found out that 50 miles is WAAYY fun and did two more- the 2cnd one was a tough ride and I was able to break my mental block about being in the saddle for 10+ hours ( it just seems like such a looong time) as that ride took 10 and a half hours and NOPE I didn't fall off then either  ***grin*** :-)- so now I am hoping.wishing and planning on doing a 100 mile ride at Spook Run next October , I dream about it ( my husband is disgusted when he asks me as I am falling asleep what I am thinking about because I have  a smile on my face and I answer " riding Miss T in a 100 mile ride next year" LOL  NOT the answer he is hoping for !! :-)
I have actually started working Miss T in my friend 's arena , something I say I will do every year but.................never do.( I hate arena riding) to get her flexible and in good shape for next year- I am actually doing AEROBICS ( a four letter word in my vocabulary) so that I am in shape for next year- whoohoo with lots of work and luck I think I can do it!!!
I love advice so anyone who knows anything about 100's feel free to give me some! We will be doing CTR's, 50's and a 75 mile ride in August next summer to get ready for Spook Run.

P.S> Shannon what do you call Drinks R Served for short??:-) ;-)

My plans are not so grand I am just planning on doing my first 50 on my 10 year old gelding. This is our 3rd year of CTR/LD's someday I will be able to type in "endurance" too.

[RC] Let's talk endurance goals for '06

Since I refuse to enter the current food fight on RC, I think we should change the subject....

The Question of the Day: What are your goals for '06, and how are you going to obtain them?

My answer:  I am planning on doing at least five 100 milers on Equal Terms this coming season - a VERY lofty goal, but obtainable, I think.  She will be 15, it will be her fifth year of competition, and she did three 100s, a 75, and several 50's (including back to back 50's twice) in '05.  I was going to retire her and start riding my next mare in line, Bey Allure, who will be 10 next year, but ET is sound and LOVES going down the trail, and seems to thrive on 100s....since I LOVE 100s, it seemed like a no brainer to keep her on the trail.

She is having a few months off now, with her shoes pulled and her coat shaggy.  I will start riding her lightly in mid Feb and take her to the Sand Hills 100 in SC in mid March.

That's the plan----what is yours????
