I believe it was Eleanor Roosevelt who said, "No one can belittle you (substitute demean or whatever word you prefer) without your permission."  If some LD riders feel they are being demeaned, could it be because they are allowing themselves to be demeaned?  If LD is the rider's choice and he/she is enjoying it, why let someone else's opinion of LD bother you? 
And remember, just because I throw something out on ridecamp as an idea, it does not necessarily follow that it is my final opinion on the matter.  Sometimes I throw something out there so people get to thinking about it.

However, I can't help but be struck by the thought that respect must be earned. I have already earned the respect of my non-endurance horsey-friends for doing LDs.
