[RC] One of THOSE Rides... - rdcarrie

Family issues kept us from attending our favorite CT region ride (Lone Star) this past weekend, so we did some riding locally.  Yesterday I took my 6 1/2 yr old gelding Bear out to the National Forest for a good long ride.  I had been hoping to do the 50 both days at Lone Star; Bear is in fantastic shape, and was feeling good yesterday.  The wind was howling, and it was in the upper 70s.  This was the most fun ride I've ever had on him, and probably one of the top 5 rides I've ever had period.  We literally flew - for 2 1/2 hours, pretty much nonstop except for two stops at streams and one at a pond for drinks and sponging, and a couple of grass breaks.  Fast trot, canter, gallop...twisty-turny single track, looping fireline, you name it.  Jumping logs (well, ok, he hit the br akes on one, *then* jumped <G>), banking around turns, snaking through the trees.  It was just one of those rides where we were really in synch.  Bear wasn't in the mood for slow trotting, and I felt like having fun, so we did.  We explored some new trails...not sure exactly where we went, but we went there fast.  <G>  What a ride!
