[RC] [RC]AQHA vs AHA (was AHA Sweepstakes Program from the horses mout... - Nat Nelson

Unfortunately, it is NOT in the past. It is getting
worse! As I feared when AHRA merged with IAHA, it
simply became a bigger and more expensive IAHA still
pandering to the show crowd and throwing the distance
horse breeders and riders some crumbs. Benefits I used
to get as a member now I have to pay for. Fees are
going up for incentive and recognition programs. I
used to be able to advertise my stallion for free, and
just pay for a photo, now there is a cost for the ad
and separate charges for photos, etc., etc. etc....>>

I'm sorry you feel that way, that you're getting a raw
deal. However, I don't know of a single breed
association in this day in age that can offer any
advertising for free. Advertising is what pays for the
association's publications. Of course if you want your
membership fees to increase - that is another way to
pay for the benifits. Sure the AHA's membership is a
bit pricey compared to the larger associations like
the AQHA - but the costs are shared with a lesser
amount of members, which constitutes the bigger price
tag. Simple economics.

The AHA has asked for the membership's input on the
incentive and recognition plans and has made an effort
to change things. Did you voice your opinon regarding
the changes? If not, how do you expect them to change?

Just the fact that the AHA is going to recognize
points earned in AERC competitions is a great start in
opinion. Previously it was limited to the national
championships. To me the AHA is throwing more than
crumbs to the distance breeders. I don't know what the
dollar value per point is going to wind up at but what
ever it is will add up over a horse's career. Remeber
the stallion owner of the horse earning those points
get a percentage of that. The more get out earing
points and Sweepstakes dollars the more the stallion
owner receives anually.

Yes, incentive and recognition programs cost money -
if they didn't there wouldn't be any money or awards
for the members participating. Again simple economics.
Of course no one is forcing anyone to participate -
but, that doesn't mean no one will.
