I have to agree about the horse at a ride not necessarily being the one you 
ride at home or on training rides.

The pony I ride displays some lovely airs above ground maneuvers I've only seen 
at distance rides.  So far the only way I've found to work it out of her is a 2 
day CTR.  By the second day she had discovered that going back out on the trail 
was going to mean work and silliness at the start was just not called for.
