[RC] lds....apology to dot wiggins - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

Wow; it's not even February/cabin fever time. Sorry, Dot,
but I can't resist; although I concur with your sentiments.

Since there are now "fun rides" associated with many AERC
venues, we could take a hint from these and rename "lds"
as "sds" (serious distance rides). Or, howabout a change
to "taste of endurance"(TOE ride). Perhaps it would be more
palatable to be serious or tasty than limited.(;;)

In some respects the idea of stand alone lds is appealing; ie,
endurance rider/horse teams could get mileage credit for using them as
interval training opportunities, there are some amazing venues
that could be enjoyed which can't accommodate the longer
rides, more nearby rides for everyone, physically easier for
ride managers. However I would worry about an eventual "divorce" from AERC
that the stand-alone might
presage; and a huge concern would be the welfare of the horses
that might attend such rides( I'm assuming that more unexperienced horse/rider
teams would be involved).

Happy Thanksgiving to all,

Betty(who's mostly lurked these past 5 years)
