Re: [RC] [RC] LDs - Terry Banister

Yes, it seems the problem really revolves around the WORD "Endurance." If they were just called, 25, 50 and 100-mile Distance races . . . ADRC . . . (?) ;-o

As someone else suggested, you wouldn't run in 20K's and resent not being considered a marathom runner.

Folks this is where this debate gets way off track. In track- there is no distinction between the "status" of a marathon runner and a 20 K or a 10 K or a 5 K. In fact in tract the marathon runner is pretty much the odd man out (they are the slow guys that didn't have the speed to make it in the shorter distances) - the marathon is not the glamour even. The mile is the glamor event. But that is only if you care about distance otherwise the 100 meter is the glamour event.

Why don't we get off this kick of "my distance is better than yours." As Mathew MacKay-Smith appropriately stated at he Biltmore ride meeting several years ago, "we are all in this together. We survive together or we go down together." You'd thing that a group that depends on the same trails and same vets we would be working together. But we seem to be divided.

Can't we just get along and stop throwing stones at each other?

I'm 63 years old and just got around to trying distance riding. Most days I think I'm one lucky lady to be able to be at the top of a mountain on a good horse in gorgeous country.
I'd sure like to do a 50, the trouble is I just keep getting older. My grandmother, however, used to point out that growing older is more fun than the alternative.
Nancy Sturm, probably lucky to be able to do an occassional LD
