 As for the differences in hold times, I see that at 50s, too.  Don't some of the 50s out west only have 1 hold at lunch?  Here in CT region, they usually have 3 holds, which may be 45/45/45, 45/60/30, or something similar.  So, less "ride time" for those riding slowly (usually me <G>) or those who want to give their horse more time to eat at holds, which I sometimes do.  But that's all part of the sport...adapt to and ride according to local conditions, inlcuding holds, etc.

I do think that it is not real fair that some LD rides have hour holds, and others have a half an hour hold, with a total of 6 hours allotted. The longer holds do make the riders have to ride faster to make the time. Especially when you consider that new riders often spend more than the allotted time at the vet checks until they get more experienced. Heck, lots of riders of all experience levels are not always ready when it's their out time.
