RE: [RC] racing/25milers - Kristen A Fisher

25s have 6 hours including holds, 50s have 12 hours including holds. It may seem like the 50s have a lot longer to finish but it's a misconception. I used to think that the percentage of hold time was lower for 50s, but then I did the math on my first 50:
 
25: hold time = 1 hour, 83 % of total allowed time is "ride time"
50: hold time = 1 hour, .75 hours, .5 hours = 2.25 hours hold time = 81% of total allowed time is "ride time"
 
The argument that the 25s have less time than the 50s just doesn't hold up.

That's 5 MPH, oohhh, that's racing speed!  CTR is faster than that, and there are horses that have a 5 MPH walk.  This is not what anyone is talking about when the are talking about LD's racing.
