At the barn, I keep a couple of xtra-large beach towels from thrift stores. 
Use one to vigorously rub down the horse after cold/windy or night rides, 
then throw it over horse's back like a sweatshirt while I do barn chores. 
They also double as saddle covers, emergency saddle pads, cleaning rags, 
etc.
