Re: [RC] [RC] Osceola - my first AERC ride and everybody was nice! - Julie Fuller

One of the funniest things a vet ever said to me was at the halfway point of a 25 miler. I had a friend with me, riding her first endurance ride. She had a STOUT Morgan gelding, who was highly excited by all the horses on the trail, and had gotten himself SO worked up, we ended up walking, walking, walking.... at an extremely slow pace.

I was riding my War Mare, Rayna, who was in 50 miler shape. She usually walked at a 7mph pace, so you can abut imagine what this slow pace did to her, especially since she was an opinionated Arab/ APPY. She was pissed as hell, not a sweat mark on her. But she did her job as asked.

So, we get to the vet check, my friends gelding was fine, which was wonderful news. The vet then looked at Rayna, then at me and said "Are you gonna RIDE this horse?!" (Meaning she didn't look like she had been) Poor Rayna, I'm sure she was thinking along the same lines. *grin*
