Re: [RC] Polo "Ponies", foxhunting, economics - Carolyn Burgess

I have no idea how Myopia got it's name. It's a huge,
really nice hunt club, just like the place that Julie
Robert's went to with Richard Gere in pretty woman.

Stock trailers: how else would you get your whole
polo string into
an (affordable) trailer? A 4 horse stock would work
pretty well for
7 smallish horses who are used to getting along for
everything from
multiple ponying for exercise to standing tied
together at events.

I've hunted with Myopia and they've hunted with my

fit in with the

do get the funny picture the name implies.

The polo player often buys his/her horses...and
needs AT LEAST
four. No matter the discipline, a finished horse
cost money.
Thank goodness we don't have to have FOUR horses
to compete in
endurance rides!

And, I think the fancy LQ horse trailers of the
endurance world can
be attributed to the fact we "live" out in the
"wild" for a weekend
while a polo player hauls in, plays, and goes
home...all in the
space of about four hours. And, as Carolyn
pointed out, if you
just shelled out big bucks for your (at the
minimum) four polo
"ponies", you probably don't have the cash for a
$50,000 trailer.

RE: Arabs in polo. While MOST Arabs are too small
to be top-notch
choices, my Arab LOVES to leg-yield into another
horse and push it
around. I've hunted with many polo players and we
"play" that way
when the hounds aren't working. But, he wouldn't
be my pick for a
polo mount. I've seen some neat acrobatics from
polo ponies; they
are awesome athletes!

Am I the only one who hears "Myopia Hunt Club" and
pictures Mr. Magoo
or the Professer Trelawney character from "Harry

big ole glasses, mounted along with a whole field
of similarly
accoutred riders fumbling about? ;-)
