I think you are on the right track in regards to your new horse's cribbing.

I had a gelding who was a horrible cribber. I bought him knowing this. I figured that with the way my place was set up (electric fences) and the way I managed (24/7 hay/turnout/pasture) he'd probably get better, if not give it up completely.

It didn't work that way though.... in the winter when the weather was wretched, I put everyone in stalls at night. He would crib all night, in spite of huge open stalls, and tons of good hay. So I got a Miracle Collar. It worked PERFECTLY, unlike all the other straps on the market.

Just something to keep in mind. It always frustrated me no end to have that stupid horse eating my barn and losing weight. That collar did the trick, and we were both happy.
