RE: [RC] [RC] Stallions in Endurance - Diana Peterson

I had the worst expirience last year. There where 3 stallions in this endurance ride i was riding in TX.

The first lady got run thru a barbwire fence ... the stallion just took off with her on top of him. The stallion tried to jump the barbwire fence and the lady came off scraping her thight badly and the stallion got his whole chest riped open by the barbwire.

The other two Stallions where ridden by to ladies . One of the lady's was the woner of both stallions. Her friend was not that good of a rider i believe , because when they passed us I hear the front lady telling her friend she was doing ok and just keep the stallion moveing forward. well ...a few minutes after they passed us. I hear people screaming for help...
One of the stallions had enough oh his rider and took off.... the lady fell of ...and then the stallion attached my other two friends who where ahead of us ....
SCARIEST thing i ever expirienced.

I don't ride with stallions in the field anymore ...or i wait till they are long gone before i get out on trail.

( I am from germany so if my spelling or english is a little wierd ..forgive me y'all ) :-)

I rode Sierra Fadwah over 1400 miles. In days of yore, many ride managers preferred that you put a bright yellow ribbon in the tail of a stallion so that other riders could have an "alert" about his gender. I also rode with red ribbons, but I tend to do that to keep other riders off my all my horses' butts.
I never had any real problems with other riders and Fadwah. Once in awhile someone would come in behind me and crowd him at water, but I tried to give him his own space. If space was tight, I would ask the crowding rider to please observe the yellow and red ribbons and act accordingly. Most of the time, other riders would recognise him, but only because of his accomplishments, not because he was a stallion.
I towed him all around in 1988 and when we would stop for water and exercise, people were very impressed with his manners and his fitness. I had a wonderful time riding him all those miles and I miss him.
