RE: [RC] [RC] sorry, more saddle ? - Juli Jakub

I did that too!! I still love it!! Riding with the eyes closed bareback no hands over the jumps..what a hoot! Anyways, I am not expecting the saddle to fix his riding problems...but to learn and learn to be confident I think it is important to have tack that fits you and horse. Have you ever ridden in a saddle at least a size too small? I have and it really stinks even for me and I am an accomplished rider. What is happening is his butt does not fit in my saddles ( I am 100 lbs so I ride in barely an adult saddle! He is 160lbs)..Piper is not the smoothest horse in the world. When he transitions or changes pace on my poor husband he loses his balance forward because he is basically sitting on the cantle...Piper thinking to help feels he is off balance and to "help" my husband he stops...because my husband is already off balance forward when Piper stops abrubtly...whoops!
I teach lessons and if I did not know him and he came to me for lessons...the first thing I would tell him is get a saddle that fits you better! It is almost impossible to learn when the saddle cantle is up your bum and you are being thrown forward constantly even at a quiet walk!! So although I admit he needs more lessons ( bad Juli bad Juli you should probably take time out to help your husband instead of always riding yourself!) I think he also needs a saddle which he can learn in. He actually rides better bareback, but honestly Piper has the worst gaits in the world unless you know how to put him in a nice collected frame ( which I think is beyond Zack at this time) and I would not want to ride him barback regularly ( or at all!!) But thanks for the input and I do agree...a saddle will not fix everything, but I think it will make it so he can at least learn.

I'd suggest that before you look for the perfect saddle for him, to
>maybe invest in some more lessons to have someone work on his balance etc.
>You don't want him to learn to depend on a saddle for his balance when
>riding.
