Re: [RC] Trails Access for Horses - Lucinda Carpe

Yes, this was a tactic used at a recent city council meeting in Apple Valley Ca, a couple of members of the community protested the development and maintenance of additional feeder trails etc. Mass mailings were sent of flyers with a bucking horse that had been super imposed into a picture with a small child so that the horse appeared to be running loose down the street of a tract house development and was kicking a little girl in the head. the other flyer had a large banner heading that said "Don't let Apple Valley turn into Road Apple Valley". This flyer spoke about the many dangers of horse poop. It will get into your homes, driveways, your neighborhood will smell like a stockyard....To make a long story short. The horse community rallied, emphasized the point of "multi use trails", Emphasized the western tradition of Apple valley ( home of Roy rogers and Dale Evans) the trails vote won unanimously. We shamed those that sent flyers with misinformation about dangerous horses running and trying to kick children in the head and also making horse poop out to be a public health problem. Now the developers HAVE to put in a multiuse trail if the area they are developing has equestrian zoning and much of our community does. YEAH!/Lucinda

Seems trails are being cut on grounds other than weed
control. I keep hearing more and more of people
complaining about horse poop along the
trail...basically other trail users. They're taking
the position of not wanting to ride through, see or
smell horse poop.
I don't recall having seen *that* much manure on the
trails to hardly be noticeable. Seems it biodegrades
pretty fast too and then is washed (rain) or blown
(wind) away.
Just curious what other metropolitan horse users are
experiencing from other user groups regarding use of
shared trails.
