RE: [RC] Pros and Cons of confinement systems - Diana M. Maloney

Picket lines are good and I've used them many times without incident.
However, horses CAN get tangled up in them. I witnessed an incident where
one end came untied and the horse ended up on the ground firmly bound up in
the rope unable to move after getting tangled. Fortunately, my horse woke me
up to let me know the horse was in distress so we could take care of it.

Happen often? No. Possible? Yes. I think the bottom line is that all of the
confinement systems we use have pros/cons and we have to take our horse's
personality into consideration - among other things.

Good luck!

We use a Picket Line for our confinement systems. Very cheap, all
you need is a long rope, you don't need a lot of room for storage and
it is not heavy. We try to tie between two trees, between one tree
and a trailer, trailer to trailer, and we have even tied between the
trailer and a fence. The horses can not get tangled up in it, they
can lay down, roll, eat or drink and even walk in circles.
