Re: [RC] Crupper/standardbred - Jon . Linderman

I think one or more of us RC lurkers race or have experience with standardbred racing.  We race pacers &  I also drive my endurance horse, though not competitively (YET!).  Yes, the harness we use for racing or training has a crupper & breast collar.  I have never seen anyone train or race without both...........but maybe somewhere someone does.  When I drive cross country with my endurance horse I use an old race harness and it has both a crupper & breast collar.    I probably could get away w/out a crupper as I've never needed one with my horse for his saddle.........but eh why monkey with it.

I LOVE driving my horse.  Part of bringing him back from his first 100's this year involved driving. I guage his willingnes to start training again by driving him.  If the lines got taut like a 20# striped bass for an hour or more I know hes ready to go back to work........late night driving was a mainstay this year with a new baby in the house too.

Seems like I remember someone on the list knows about Standardbred track racing.

Does the harness they use at the track have a crupper?

As it begins to rain and the trails get slippery, I thought I'd start to do the preliminaries for driving our Standardbred.  I've ground driven him in a training surcingle.  That went very well, thought I'd harness him next and  ground drive him in a full harness - but I'd just as soon not get any nasty surprises.
