And if you saw her, Honey that is, she couldn't look less like an
endurance horse. But man is she. I personally don't like to ride
mares, there can be only one alpha bitch (guess I'm it) but Honey
would change your mind. She doesn't look like a horse that can do 10
hour or less 100's, but she does. She is short, chunky, but tough as
nails.

Gee, sounds to me like the very sort of horse that I WOULD pick for the
sport. And once again, the short chunky horse proves that that is what it
takes. (Rio was kind of short and chunky, too...)

Amen, Heidi. The gelding I ride is also short, chunky, but
very solid (he's done reasonably well in his still-fledgling
endurance career.) Lot's of CMK/Polish in his pedigree.
At his first endurance ride, I had many friends come up to
me and say, "That's your new endurance horse, eh? He's kind
cute, but I don't know about endurance." Since his first ride
he's completed 2 100's and didn't take the full 24 hrs to do
it either (not too shabby for my short, chunky little boy!)
I'd take a shorter, sturdy mount over a tall, leggy one any
day (not to mention that I'm only 5'2"!)
