[RC] - Mary Krauss

Bruiser, my big, slow, sweet Andalusian has four or five inch lumps on either side of his hindquarters. The lump on his right side seems a bit bigger and more solid than the one on the left. I thought they were exercise-induced muscle spasms until I discovered that they don't disappear with rest. He doesn't seem to be in pain, though I had thought initially that he was reluctant to go down steep hills because he'd cramped up there. Now it seems to me that his reluctance to go down steep hills is directly related to the fact that he's being asked to do any work at all after four or five years of hanging out in the pasture. Now I'm just curious and worried--can Lipomas be this big? Whatever they are, they seem to be located just where the muscle sweeps down from the hip and meets with the muscle that sweeps over from the back of the hind leg. I watched a video called "the Visible Horse" and realized that his lumps occur just where the two big muscle groups come together. (Great video by the way if anyone out there hasn't seen it--unbelievable art-work. Very informative for us visual learners....) Anyone out there have any ideas?

Mary K.
