[RC] Equi-Pak - sandy . l . holder

Hi Steph,

Julie's right on with the equi-pak.  If you do it yourself just prior to a ride, then it will stay in for a couple of days unless you pop it our (so easy) earlier.  If you have your farrier do it (like I did before Tevis), it will stay in much longer, in fact I finally popped it out 5 weeks later after doing both Tevis (only 70 miles) and Swanton Pacific (100 mile completion).  In between he was running around in pasture.  As far as the hoof is concerned, we put in nylon mesh between the shoe and the hoof and then 'injected' it to the shoe line.  When I finally popped it out, his sole had the beginnings of thrush but cleared up within 2 days once removed.  Of course its really dry here in Gilroy this time of year so I'm sure the dry dirt helped.

Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

Good luck,
Sandy and Tally
