[RC] Mysterious bump/lump on horses spine - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

OK I've called every vet around and had my chiropractor (s) look at this is
well- no help

My horse gets about a quarter size firm-ish bump like a bug welt right about
one hand below the hair on his withers
Directly on the spine sort of roundish. After saddling OR riding- doesn't seem
to matter - then about 10-20 min later it disappears completely
Yes completely. It doesn't seem to hurt (horse doesn't react and he is ultra
-sensitive about touching)- and the ONLY thing that seems to
Affect it is a) a cool back pad makes it much smaller
            b) occurs with 35 lb western custom made trail saddle with a wool
(expensive! Fluffy-type with woven on one side)
or with passier dressage and cotton pad
            c) water/ice seems to help it disperse a small amount faster
            d) rest doesn't seem to make a difference- so if I rest a few days
- it still occurs
            e) he has no welts/bug bites etc anywhere else on his body
            f) it is very clear that the saddle (s) are NOT touching in the
area of the welt

I'm looking into thermography but I'm not sure how that will help- maybe
accupuncture (pop it!) argggg!

This is so frustrating! I really want to get this horse in condition yet he has
this bump and despite the vets saying (concensus of them)
"ride him till it gets worse" I just can't stand to do that. I've never seen
anything like it and neither has anyone else I've asked

THANKS!

Donna "mystery bump/lump/not on his rump[ -I'm in the dump!"

PS note the western saddle is a custom made for *him* from a saddle back mold!
and not that long ago
