Re: [RC] News release from AHA - Chris PausI never did buy into the sweepstakes thing. My stallion had a racing career, which isn't part of the sweepstakes program. The track has its own promotions. To nominate one of my foals for sweepstakes would cost about $3,000! I can't imagine selling a foal for enough money to cover breeding, foaling, raising and sweepstakes!
I also have always thought the sweepstakes program only benefits the people riding at the top. You don't get any payback unless you do the long rides and place really high.
I know a fellow who is a career LD rider, yet he insists on buying sweepstakes horses and breeding his mare to a sweepstakes stallion. At the level he rides, it means diddly squat. He'll never see a penny back on his investment unless he sells a horse to someone who is interested in sweepstakes.
