[RC] Question for T Ivers & others - Nancy Sturm

My 9 year old gelding was hospitalized on IV's, meds, support for 6 days with an undiagnosed case of diarrhea.  He did not have clostridium, salmonella, Potomac Horse Fever.  The only real plan I have is to lay him off until he regains weight .

I was basing his conditioning on what I would have done when I was running and cycling with planned long slow days, quicker paced days and climbing days.  This isn't very practical because we live where there's nothing but hills - probably be lucky to find 1/2 mile of lfat ground, but it's what we have to work with.  I could keep up with the buff young triathletes on hills when cycling (they always dropped me on the flat).

So the question:  what's the safest most effective way to return this horse to work?
