Sandy, A generator that would produce 5000 amps would run your neighborhood. I 
know you are a generous person with an "empty nest" but that is being way too 
nice.
Just kidding. You mean 5000 watts (I hope).
Kubota & Honda make very good generators but are expensive.
Check out e-bay, tons of generators there.
If you plan on using it for your home, make sure you have a qualifed person set 
it up. If it is not installed properly 
it could cause injury or death to a worker trying to make repairs to the grid.
