And just as a trainer might be able to get a
horse that has a pathology in its right hind to pick up the left canter
lead anyway (horses being the agreeable creatures that they are are
frequently willing to overcome their physical discomforts and preferences
to accommodate their human handlers), you might also be able to train the
spookiness out of your horse even if the underlying cause of its spookiness
is a magnesium deficiency.

I concur.....magnesium deficiency might CONTRIBUTE to the problem, but this
would be something I would check as a matter of general health anyway if I
felt my training program was not progressing as expected, based on my
knowledge of the horse in general. My point was that looking for an "easy
fix" like a diet deficiency would not be my first assumption when trying to
solve a spook problem. However, there are many OTHER indicators which would
tell me what the "personality" of that horse is and how to deal with it.
It's not a "one fix" problem, but no matter WHAT you do with diet, you MUST
provide the training or live with the spook. The point is, simply adding
magnesium to a magnesium deficient diet, IMHO, is not going to result in a
"magical" change in behavior.
