[RC] Mountain Lions in No. Calif. - Ann Blankenship

We live in Northern California just off the Tevis Trail and I can tell you that there are tons of lions up here.  People just don’t see them.  We occasionally spot them crossing the road at night, find their tracks in our arenas, or see them crossing the horse pastures but never have had them bother anything other than deer (which they sometimes sit and eat in your driveway).  The unfortunate exception to this was the death a few years ago of a woman jogger who (some say) got between a mama lion and her cub.  The cub is now in the Folsom Zoo, mama is in lion heaven.

We also have so many bear that the trappers won’t even come up here unless the bear is just about sitting at your table.   A local horse shoer came home from some time away to find one had taken up residence in his house.  The trappers told him that he’d have to take care of it himself… that they were on another job.  LOL!  The bear has now joined the lion in heaven.

I used to ride with a little 45 in my fanny pack but my mare did a spinning spook one day and landed me right on the pistol.  Now, you never want to fall on your gun.  It really hurts.  <grin>
