RE: [RC] Girly Trucks - Mary Krauss

When I went truck shopping a few years ago, I could not get a salesperson to talk to me. I started worrying that I hadn't showered after my run or had failed some other subtle hygiene test. This happened at 4 different dealerships. Please understand, I've bought all 4 of our previous cars with nary a problem. Finally I caught on: they simply could not believe that a woman could or would buy a truck without her husband around. Once my husband tagged along to the Chevy dealership, we were nearly trampled by eager salesmen. I enjoyed the moment when he pointed to me and said something to the effect of, "I'm just here for company; she's the one buying the truck." Even at that they kept addressing him....

I understand things have changed even in the past five years--the dealerships make their salespeople take gender lessons. Did you know it turns out that male buyers are more interested in looks than in performance? Who woulda' thunk?! And woman tend to ask technical questions about torque and engine size...... :-)

Mary K-- who owns a boss gasoline powered truck but longs for a Girly Diesel....
