I guess it must be a Paso Fino thing, Paul.  I call that "Adjustment by Paso" (sorry Bruce :-p) and for me it works every time.  Must be something to do with their forward-back motion instead of side-to-side or up-and-down.

No one has mentioned how they make a rider look good too.  I thought I could ride well, and then I got a trotting horse :-)
