Is the horse accustomed to this level of fat? Some studies fed a lot of fat to horses successfully.
I suspect that the horse can adjust to wide ranges of fat in the diet, if the diet is consistant.
When in WI I fed 2 cups fat twice a day along with the beet pulp and grain. I had to to keep weight on the horses in the summer. Now that I have MT grass, I feed very little fat with much less beet pulp.
