[RC] re: Newbie's quarter horse question - Cindy Collins

While 'most' of us do ride Arabs and Arab crosses, there are many folks
who have successfully ridden quarter horses. Many people start out on QHs
to find out if they really like the sport. It would be silly to go out
and buy an Arab just because you "might" like endurance. The main thing
to keep in mind is that you may need to go a little slower at first and
will have to work a little harder, on average, to cool down your horse and
to drop his pulse. This is a generalization, of course. In the Mountain
region, the Gibbs family from Montana rode their ranch quarter horses very
successfully in the 1980s and won many 50 mile rides. I would suspect
that "appendix" horses would do best. Good luck to you and welcome to our
sport. Cindy
