If I were a prey animal I'd sure want to be able to stay in great condition all the time cuz who knows when a hungry cougar will turn up!

Field trialer here.Some time back,some Ridecamp posters espoused the concept that unlike humans,horses maintain an acquired fitness level for a long time without continually performing the amount of work that got them to that point.
Too good to be true? I must admit that this is something I have bought into to salve my conscience re the "weekend warrior" regime that I impose on Chico the Rebel (and myself).
It(seems)to be true-Chico has pretty much been tireless,no matter what.Comments?


'tis true.  At least that has been my experience.  It doesn't mean they don't
lose any fitness over time, but it takes a while and happens more gradually than
for us humans.
