Overtraining is perhaps the biggest training mistake in the sport. >

I'm with you on that one Stagg. That was my problem when I started. I
rode 5 days a week, about an hour of faster work sprinting hills 4 of
those days and maybe 5 to 7 hrs medium pace cross country on Saturday.  I
applied stress which would have made the horse stronger had he had an
occasional off day to rebuild but I just kept training daily, further
stressing the compromised part thinking he needed the work until whatever
it was "gave".  You don't see those horses at rides...they're standing at
home.  Not many horses stay sound long enough to get overtrained
metabolically if you're talking about the gradual loss of condition due
to overtraining and not a violent crash.

"Over racing" may be a greater problem on race day, but again, the over
trained horses probably aren't there.
