Re: [RC] Pathophysiology of Scratches - Sisu West Ranch

The most typical silicone RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) rubber is packaged with free acetic acid in the product (vinegar for non-chemist types). The Acetic acid evaporates from the silicone when applied and allows it to cure.

Acetic acid is a strong skin irritant. Vinegar, because the active ingredient is acetic acid, is also bad news if something (like a bandage or silicone rubber) prevents it from evaporating quickly.

This is an example that everything, natural or not, is a chemical and can cause problems or illness if misused.

Silicone rubber and silicone oils are among the least irritating or bio-reactive substances known to modern man.
