Re: [RC] IV's/Tevis - Truman Prevatt

Don't know how I got in this, but I'll respond. If a horse needs treatment by all means do it. On the other hand when you go to a lot of rides over the years where you see no IV's and all of a sudden you find one where horses are lined up on IV's - with basically the same vets you've seen at the rides with no IV's required - then you have to wonder if there is not something wrong with the picture.

It still gives me a sick feeling in my stomach to see a horse up on IV's. It made me even sicker when my horse had to have IV's.

If there is something that would be passed over at most rides, it is not at Tevis. There are so many horses, new horses to this event and hot, hot conditions that the vets will IV a horse simply to be ready to do more. Considering the conditions and number of horses, as well as many first time Tevis riders the overly cautious vets go out of their way to be prepared.
At the WEC they IV'd Tallymark and a hour and half later kicked him out of the "hospital" for demanding a remote changer for the TV and more ice cream.
