Re: [RC] 100 mile volunteering - Maggie MieskeKathy, Weren't you planning on a vacation in Michigan this year? :) Around the first weekend in August? Heeheehee!!! I can ALWAYS find work for a volunteer....I tend to think I am lucky in having so many volunteers at my ride but there is still so much that needs to be done...things that I feel guilty asking someone else to do...it's not just vet check stuff. I need people to fix food for my volunteers, put together dinner on Sat night (we don't cater here), cook, clean up, monitor kids and dogs (I try to have an older kid watch kids for my volunteers so they can help ME) and this year, I have some people who are going to be my "hospitality" welcome wagon. I can't seem to get to everyone sometimes and I want EVERYONE to feel special and needed and necessary to the success of my ride whether they are volunteering, riding, crewing or simply there to soak it all up. :) If you think you are not needed, try handing out a cold water bottle or a sponge to a hot, tired horse and rider when they come in (I know I appreciate that at the Pyramid Challenge) or getting them a sandwich or snack if ride management offers that for riders....there is always SOMETHING you can do. Just don't be shy! :) Maggie =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
