RE: [RC] WHY TROT? - heidiHeidi I was talking to Mike Mclean at Sunriver and he said almost the same words as you just did. He and Ina used to own a Walker. He said he couldn't stand that rolling motion. I found this quite odd as there is no rolling motion except if the horse is pacing. So I asked Mike about this and sure enough...his horse only paced! Well no wonder he hated it! There is nothing worse than a pace, it is a lateral gait that throws you side to side. You can't post it you just have to "roll" with it and it is the pits with a capitol SH. If you have ever ridden a true RW, I am here to tell you, there is no smoother gait. Your body doesn't "flex" one iota. I've ridden a true running walk, and there is kind of a rhythm to it that gets to me after awhile. So no, I don't find it to be "heaven on earth" as you put it--but I'm glad that it is for you. But a true RW...well if you find a horse that does this gait, I will argue til the cows come home that there is nothing like it and your body just purrs with delight and you have to wipe the bugs off your teeth from the cheshire grin you can't get off your face. I agree there is nothing like it--I just don't find it comfortable for long periods of time. Again, isn't it nice that there are different horses for different folks?
