Re: [RC] Tevis volunteers needed! - Chris Paus

Lucy,

I'd love to help, but I'm in Kansas.

do you have a link for us so we can click on the site and see what's happening?

On the subject of Tevis, this year once again we're
doing the webcast on the internet so all those who
can't be present for the ride can track their horse
+ rider team.

Having done the webcast for the WS100 run two weeks
ago, I've realised that we could really use some help
at Net Control (in Auburn) the morning of the ride.

We get fed rider # + "in time" over the radio and
then input that information into the database. Once
the riders spread out during the ride it gets easier,
but when they first pour in to Robinson Flat all at
once, we just get dumped on and can't keep up with the
glut of information and get it onto the computer quickly
enough to upload to the website... Then the spectators
at home whine that the ride has been on for *hours*
and there's nothing up on the web yet, so we must be
incompetent .

So we basically need someone to help with data entry:

* Previous experience not necessary
* You need to be accurate at entering numbers into the computer
* A laptop would be useful but is not essential
* A real keyboard/ten-key for your laptop would be useful
but is not essential (you'll just wish you had it)
* Refreshments will be provided
* Air conditioning will be provided (a definite plus, since
we just started ramping up to triple digits this week)
* You would probably need to be in Auburn from 8:45 - noon-ish
(although you can come earlier or stay later, or spend less
time - we promise not to chain you to a desk).

Considering it sounds like a dull task, it's usually
pretty interesting, because you get to listen to what's
going on with the ride (over the radio) in the background,
which can sometimes be an eye-opener.

Please email me if you're interested.

Thanks!
