I agree 100% with not riding him so much.  And with six days to go, the very,
very best thing she can do for this horse is REST, REST, REST.  But "feeding the
stuffing out of him" while he's being rested, after he's been working hard, then
starting a ride, is a sure-fire recipe for tying up (auzotaria, aka "Monday
Morning Disease).

Normal ration the next few days then reduce the pellets the last day or two
before the ride, and CAREFUL warming up before the start of the ride should be
OK.  With what she's feeding he'll put on some weight this week just being
rested.

IMO she should not get on this horse's back until she arrives at the ride site,
then no more than just a SHORT, easy, limbering-up ride to work out the kinks
from the trip.
